About Continuum Theater
Continuum Theater is a theater and performing arts organization founded to support Jewish learning, community, and cultural continuity.
For thousand of years, tales of our ancestors and the Jewish experience were shared from generation to generation. Before books existed, these tales served as more than entertainment: they were the only means of conveying spiritual and cultural meaning throughout the community. Modern research has confirmed the power of stories. We learn as we “experience” stories; our brains work to organize and make meaning of them; we engage with issues of identity (am I like this person or not?); and we empathize. Increasingly, Jewish tales, old and new, have been transmitted by storytellers via drama, music, and dance.
People are hungry for stories. It’s part of our very being. Storytelling is a form of history, of immortality too. It goes from one generation to another.Studs Terkel
Continuum Theater was founded to share compelling stories of the full scope of the Jewish experience–our history, tales, challenges, experiences and aspirations. Through the performing arts–theater, music and dance, we hope to sustain the connective tissue of our culture, add to the conversation about Jewish identity and nurture the artists in our midst. Just as importantly, we aim to be a cultural institution that forges social and communal bonds and builds bridges of understanding within the Jewish community and throughout our surrounding communities.
Continuum Theater is a member of the Association for Jewish Theatre and the League of Chicago Theatres. Continuum Theater is a registered 501(c)(3) organization.
